Handicapping horse races is tough and picking long shot winners is really rough if you want to make money betting on horses.
The reason for that is that most people do not know when a longshot is a good bet.
Every horse, including those longshots, had a jockey, trainer and owner who were all involved in getting the horse into condition and into that race.
I will admit that there were a few times when one my horses won at long odds and I didn't even have a bet on it because I didn't think it had a chance in the race.
Many people probably thought I cleaned up at the pay windows but the sad truth was I was a s surprised as anyone when it won.
There were few times when I won when I had a hunch the horse was going to improve a lot and I cashed in on it.
If bettors had been sharp those days they could have seen that something was up with the horse by watching the money in the pools.
If you keep track of how the money is spread around you can spot long shots that are intended to win.
